This is my 18th post of the year and this is 18 September, so -- 18 Things.

1) Reading: The Whalebone Theatre by Joanna Quinn.
2) Watching: Catching up on Only Murders in the Building, ready to start Season 2 of The Chelsea Detective on Acorn.
3) Knitting: very badly, a Christmas gift for my middle brother.
4) Looking forward to Season 2 of Loki!
5) Here's the first trailer.
6) Besides Hiddleston, there's Ke Huy Quan. Handsome guys in wild time-travel stuff? Sounds good!
7) Also, the 60th anniversary specials of Doctor Who! Doctor and Donna? Yes please.
8) Lastly, looking forward to the Audible audio drama of Slayers: A Buffyverse Story. SPIKE GILES ANYA CORDELIA PARALLEL-UNIVERSE! With CLEM!
9) I will just learn to listen to longform drama, which has not worked for me so far except for dramas on Radio 4.
10) Anyway, that's all good autumn stuff.
11) In style news, I love the images of Erdem's most recent collection, which honors Debo the previous Duchess of Devonshire and uses heritage fabrics from her archive at Chatsworth.
12) Would I be able to wear any of these clothes? No. But I like looking at them.
13) Otherwise, I am mostly recovered from Covid.
14) Back to Pilates last week! Back to normal-ish!
15) But I live in the subtropics, and it's still hideously hot and steamy, which is the Bad kind of normal.
16) Also I'm anxious about retirement, as my 401K equivalent has a spread of $12,000 in its projections for me.
17) Ugh. Numbers.
18( But hugs to all, and joy to you!

Three links on an unbearably hot Friday, featuring three of my absolute faves:

Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton went to Wimbledon for the final day of play, and they were too adorable for words in their coordinating Ralph Lauren outfits. (Time was when I would have cut a bitch for Zawe's shoes, but alas, I am old and can no longer do those heels.) Anyway -- CUTENESS! Also, look at these cuddlebugs in the stands. (Yes, that's Jonathan Bailey aka Lord Anthony Bridgerton and Ariana Grande in the row above them.)

(Part of me is embarrassed to be such a fangirl about them at my big age, but eh. The heart loves what it loves.)

More Zawe! Here she's the villain Dar-Benn in the trailer for The Marvels, which comes November 10. The movie looks pretty fun.

Now we turn to something completely different, which is my forever love for Christian Kane. I've a real fondness for his show for producer Dean Devlin Almost Paradise, in which he is an ex-DEA agent helping the police in the Philippines; it's old-fashioned in a good way in terms of characters, action, and humor, but fresh in its setting and the way it presents the place. (Dean Devlin is Filipino-American, and this is a love letter to that side of him.) The second season just dropped on Amazon Freevee; here's the trailer.

And now, of course, I'm thinking about Lindsey McDonald now and Fred in Deep Ellum....

Anyway, hugs and happy Friday!

We made it through January. For a while there, I wasn't sure I was going to.

We made it to Friday, too.

While I've got work to do, I thought I'd also link the Medium post I did yesterday on a sartorial craving. "The Craving, The Hunt" is what I call it.

Other than hunting for that piece and enjoying a sale item I purchased at the first of the year, I've started to work on culling clothes a little and organizing my ideas for packing for Cornwall in June. La la la!

Not much else is going on with me. I've started watching Slow Horses, the AppleTV series based on Mick Herron's spy novels. While as you know I am in general fond of spies, I will also say that these spies are not quite my kind, which is in fact their draw. I further will admit that Jack Lowden is cute and Gary Oldman, brilliant in the role of Jackson Lamb, is so unkempt and borderline disgusting that one can almost smell the character through the screen. ;)

Anything fun for you all? Sending hugs for the first days of February.
usedtobeljs: (Mary Tyler Moore smile and gesture)
Here we are in 2022 -- is that right? Can that be right? It hardly seems possible.

My 2021 was crammed with work and anxiety; I didn't post much here (40 posts in 2021, down from 47 in 2020), but I am still here, la la la.

I haven't had a particularly fannish year, I regret to say; Loki and Dalgleish are the only TV programs I have a memory of watching all the way through (except in the early months of 2021, Bridgerton? and tonight [EDITED: NEXT Sunday] starts the US airing of Series 2 of All Creatures Great and Small), and I haven't seen many movies. Like, part of me wants to watch The Power of the Dog, and more of me ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT. I haven't been writing fic either, because I've been working on an original project.

That being said, I did write about style last year, and will write more this one. Today, in fact, I posted this short piece on my style intentions for the year.

Otherwise, today I'm organizing for the return to the office and to getting a few things done which have hung fire for some months. (I also have to make sure that tomorrow Miss Adventure can go to doggy daycare, the joy of her life.)

Even though I've been absent without leave some of the time, I send hugs and all good thoughts for the upcoming year.
usedtobeljs: (Joanna Lumley sensitive from kathyh)
Well, here we are in mid-December, la la la.

Of course it's unseasonably warm here in the subtropics and will be until Christmas, but at least it saves electricity. Not especially Christmassy, however....

Last week I had a birthday, which would have been exciting except that I also had STACKS of time-sensitive work to accomplish and so celebration was minimal. This weekend, however, I got to go drink wine in the Nearby Cool Town with my grad school best bud and her husband; this was really special to me, because I hadn't socialized in such a grown-up evening way for a while, and hadn't socialized with them both since right before the first lockdown in March 2020.

While out, I saw a middle-aged gentleman in velvet jacket (blue) and in trousers with two different tartan patterns, one for each leg. V.v. festive and styling! I appreciated the effort. :)

Speaking of people making a style effort, I give you Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton; the first image is from the Tonys in September, but the other three looks are from last week and three separate appearances. Y'all, these pretty, pretty people.

Here's a three-sentence fic on Dressing Well:

Mycroft/Anthea )

May your week be wonderful!
usedtobeljs: (Tom Hiddleston Doubled by Misbegotten)
It's Monday, la la la.

Miss Adventure and I have had our morning walk in the subtropical steam. She still barks at the world, but she managed to make it around the park without lunging at any passing car. Perhaps this is the side-effect of her walk Downtown yesterday; we can only go there on weekend mornings very early, because she gets over-stimulated easily, but she actually managed two blocks on the main street without serious incident. Whee!

Am writing, am working, am trying not to stress-eat. This is going less well than I hoped.

Otherwise, I've had a frustrating summer with online clothing purchases. I bought a Victoria Beckham limited-edition repurposed T-shirt; after a week, the customer-service folk said the T-shirt was actually out of stock and refunded my money. A few weeks later, I bought a cute shirtdress from Hobbs; after a week, same thing happened. So now I'm waiting on a TRULY INSANE shoe purchase from Carel Paris; the shoes have been sitting in France, ready to be shipped, for five days now.

Perhaps I'm cursed. Who knows.

Let's look at the amazing icon of TH in the mirror, made by Misbegotten, instead. :) Hugs and a happy week!
usedtobeljs: (Lindsey Big Damn Anti-hero by Linnaea)
I just realized it's been a couple of weeks since I've posted. This is not a Dreamwidth thing; I've also been mostly silent in my other social-media haunts. Just a little down for no reason.

Three things:

1) After several months of struggle, I decided to abandon the most recent Cormoran Strike novel by J.K. Rowling. I'd felt unhappy about reading it anyway, what with the JKR social-media stances and all, but I'd invested money in the hardback and time following Strike and Robin, so... It sat on my nightstand for months, my having gotten 70 pages into the 900-page behemoth and stalled.

Early this week, then, I sat down, read another 100 pages... hesitated, and read the ending so I knew where she'd left Strike and Robin... and got up and put the mostly unread book in my sack to go to the used-book store. It was oddly freeing.

2) I just bought the most AMAZING black blazer from ThredUp. Now I just need to get through the endless summer hell of the subtropics, and yay I will wear it.

3) Christian Kane shared this link on his Instagram. Read his comment on the image. HEEEE.

Hugs to all, and a good weekend ahead.
usedtobeljs: (Anya we persevere thoughtful)
Okay, wow, busy busy and kind of down but here's a five-minute list:

*Two weeks past the second vaccine! Whoooo and hoooo!

*Miss Adventure, who is unmanageable with the usual collar-and-leash situation, has now been transitioned to a nice, sturdy harness for leash walks. She is dubious about it, but we persevere.

*Lyle Lovett is doing one of his online conversations-and-a-few-songs with Sarah McLachlan tonight. I will probably listen tomorrow, since once the ticket is bought, one has the weekend to access the concert.

*As you know, Lyle Lovett is a gentleman and an artist and one of my favorites. :)

*Miss Adventure is now barking ferociously. [checks] As I suspected, a neighbor is standing in his front yard. Sigh.

*Bitterly amused at the furor over BoJo's corruption in regards to redecorating his flat rather than any of the hundred other things he's done, but, you know, Mycroft works in mysterious ways.

*Got a pair of expensive sandals in an attempt to make myself enjoy wearing sandals. So far -- nope.

*Lastly, if anyone can tell me in what episodes Zawe Ashton appears in The Handmaid's Tale, that would be helpful. :) Dystopia is NOT my thing, but I do like La Ashton.

And there we are! Happy weekend to you!
usedtobeljs: (Anya Pensive Star by Bouncy Monkey)
After two days so hot that I had to turn on the air-conditioner, a cool front has brought us closer to normal. My windows are open to the cooler air (and pollen, oh well), and the scent of my neighbor's orangeblossoms is wafting inside.

Miss Adventure is also reclining on the sofa barking at the birds, which is less pleasant but utterly characteristic.

5 Things?

1) Looking forward to reading the new Veronica Speedwell mystery by Deanna Raybourn, which should be in my Kindle as we speak. No time to read it now, but it's here.

2) Ordered new glasses, which may arrive at some point this week. I know how much my glasses cost, and I still winced.

3) The way I socialize with In-Town Best Friend these days is a brisk nature walk, and on Sunday morning we went out to a local wildlife refuge to walk on the berms around the pools. Even at 8:30 it was far too hot, but we did our 2.5-mile hike anyway, with light wind ruffling the blue water and the tall swampgrasses, with anhingas and cranes and various ducks all around.

We didn't see any gators, but I am FINE WITH THAT.

4) Enjoyed Victoria Beckham's autumn/winter 21 show/video. The sheer dresses don't work for me, but the suits, oh my god. Alas, my eye loves the high-heeled knee boots, but yesterday I wore proper heels for the first time in a couple of months and I've lost my skill in managing them.

5) Writing on my own stuff, which means I haven't ficced at all. I keep wanting to, but I keep not having ideas, so...

Have a wonderful middle of your week!
usedtobeljs: (Alex Not Amused by Winding_Path)
I have no words for the attempted coup d'etat on...was it Wednesday? Was Trump's phone call to try to bully the Georgia Secretary of State into fabricating votes only on Sunday? Time has no meaning any more.

So, because I seriously am dizzy these days with the speed of...stuff -- let's think about more cheerful things.

1) I have the proper replacement for the back fence at last, at last! It changes my backyard in terms of perception of space, etc. Miss Adventure can now go play in the backyard but only while supervised, as she indicated she might enjoy tunneling under the fence to freedom. (Sigh.)

2) Today's tea: F&M Green Tea with Ginger. Yesterday's stress-baking: oatmeal cookies with cranberries and crystallized ginger. I sense a theme.

3) At the beginning of January, I reset my clothing budget. Also at the beginning of January: mega-sales on items which the various social media algorithms had been taunting me with for months. So anyway, thanks to Paul Smith and Ann Mashburn for your shops' sales. (The Paul Smith item arrived already and I'm in love.)

4)In related news, after "knitting" (badly) for a couple of years, I have now actually mastered the purl stitch. Wheee! Too late for my birthday scarf, but the yarn for that was so pretty that it mattered not that the stitches weren't varied.

5) Because of unchecked community spread of Covid-19 in my town, I have been persuaded to stop attending Pilates classes until vaccine or a plunge in the community cases. Making Barre and matwork a home-workout priority means that Miss Adventure gets a treat to keep her from jumping on me during the hundreds or similar. La la la.

And lastly, 6) For those who enjoyed Bridgerton Series One, the inimitable Red Scharlach has drawn Simon and Daphne. Precious!

Hugs and a good weekend to all.
usedtobeljs: (Joanna Lumley sensitive from kathyh)
Ah, such a sweet summer child I was on December 31. I knew enough not to say that I thought the new year would be better, but somewhere in the recesses of my mind, I must have thought too loudly.

What resulted:

Jan 1 -- bad news about a family member

Jan 2 -- during socially distanced visit with friend A, bad news about an acquaintance; phone call later that evening from Grad School friend with bad news about another person I know

Okay, I'm already done with that.

I do have intentions for 2021, but unlike previous years, I think I'll keep them to myself. I'm writing them down in a notebook, however, and I'll check back for myself next December.

Since January 1, I have, however, 1) reset my clothing budget and ordered a sale item from Paul Smith \O/, and 2) begun to teach Miss Adventure to shake her paw, using the prompt word "enchante". This amuses me so, so much.

I'm easily amused, it's true.

Otherwise: I have no current fandoms at the moment. (Lucifer will return this year, and Endeavour, but I do not engage in fannish pursuits with them.) I will say that I did watch most of Bridgerton and v.v. much enjoyed Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury and the raised eyebrows, voice, and general perfection of Rege-Jean Page as the Duke of Hastings. Also, how cute is Luke Thompson as Benedict? Alas, however, I don't feel particularly fannish about it, so there we are.

But never mind. Off we go into 2021! As a certain pinstripe-suited Doctor was wont to say, allons-y! And I will add virtual hugs as well. :)
usedtobeljs: (Giles Anya Recharging by Head Rush)
I realize that I haven't posted in a while, so 5 Quick Things:

1) Next Friday, Dec 13 -- Lyle Lovett and Elvis Costello, in an online conversation plus songs. Many of you might remember that these two gentlemen are on my short list of Favorite Artists, and I am positively giddy with excitement.
2) I have no more money in my budget this month/hell-year, but Victoria Beckham just dropped a mini-collection with Reebok, including trainers that I am YEARNING FOR. Do I need them? No. But YEARNING.
3) Miss Adventure has been so very adolescent these past few days, and although we were supposed to go to obedience class this morning, even a 1.5-mile walk beforehand had not taken the edge off her bratty attitude. So we didn't go. Ah well.
4) Have acquired a bottle of Chapel Down classic brut sparkling wine. Am saving it for Crimbo, I think... My upcoming birthday will be celebrated with Perrier-Jouet. (Or should I shift this and drink Chapel Down for my birthday? DECISIONS.)
5) Currently drinking a cold bottle of Topo Chico sparkling water, however, so there we are.

Am contemplating, too, a short mini-fic for my upcoming birthday, but I just don't have any inspiration. Will keep contemplating.

Hugs to all, and a lovely week ahead.
usedtobeljs: (Default)
1) The beautiful week of fall weather went away here, alas, and we're deep in a week of Steam Heat: The Reprise.
2) Also, a beautiful but invasive tree species -- the golden rain tree -- is in bloom, to which I am profoundly allergic.
3) But the light is autumn-blue, and the sun sets earlier, and I am clinging to that.
4) Also -- I VOTED early, and it shows up as counted on the local elections website. Biden/Harris all the way, plus all available Democrats down-ballot.
5) Thinking about the great designer Paul Smith, who is celebrating 50 years in fashion. (Here's a link to his January celebration.)
6) I love Paul Smith's eye for color, his take on classic and modern wear, and a lot of his androgynous clothing.
7) And my favorite trousers in my closet were a Paul Smith score at the Floral Street boutique some years ago.
8) Also thinking about Victoria Beckham's beautiful Posh lipsticks. I do wear lipstick on Zoom work days, so...
9) But what color?
10) Sending hugs to all of you.
usedtobeljs: (Anya Deepest Deep by Miggy)
So tired. So sad at the news of RBG's passing (may her memory be a revolution). So ready to move out of this time.

Instead of thinking of that, 10 Good Things:
1) The Old Vic livestream of Faith Healer, brilliant and unsettling theatre. Mr Michael Sheen, mesmerizing (well, he plays a faith healer) and shaggy and feral; Ms Indira Varma, tragic and elegant; Mr David Threlfall, pathetic and perfect.
2) After reading a lot about sustainable fabrics and the problems with polyester as it's usually used (there are some exceptions), I was bummed to see that a skirt I wanted from a London brand was polyester. But lo! A massive clearance was happening at Needless Markup, and I got an equivalent piece in silk at 1/3 the price.
3) Boot season!!
4) It looks like (knock on wood) Hurricane Teddy will miss Bermuda, which already has been hit with Hurricane Paulette this season. Ready to go back to Bermuda once this madness is finished.
5) The local forecast teases us with a cooldown to average temperatures this week. I need autumn...
6) Blueberry pancakes (with ginger and nutmeg in the mix, peanut butter and agave nectar as toppings) this morning, finishing the mix I had.
7) Made it through the HARD exercise class Thursday, and am almost over the soreness.
8) Someone's reading my Anthea/Mycroft series on AO3 and leaving me kudos on every story. Since I am feeling insecure, that's a real lift.
9) Finished a longstanding knitting project -- which doesn't look great, but is off my needles. ;)
10) Also finished knitting my first cowl! Cream cotton, suitable for 8 months of Florida weather.

What good things in this vale of tears are you thinking about? Hugs to you all.
usedtobeljs: ("Dame" Emma C by Bouncy Monkey)
Oppressive heat for the next few weeks here in the subtropics, but the September light is changing and telling me that this season too will pass. (Again: not a fan of summer.)

Due to my clothes budget being strained during the Lockdown Buy-all-the-things period, I am not buying much for fall. I'll replace a black turtleneck sweater in the next few weeks, but my only real fall purchase so far has been a midi-length denim skirt from Boden, long and swingy at the hem and a perfect 1970s vibe. It's going to look *great* with riding boots.

(Disclosure: I bought an American-khaki-coloured viscose midi-skirt from Boden two and a half months ago, and it started this whole jam. I love it.)

I am deep into that 70s vibe all the way around, actually. I wonder if the uncertainties of the 1970s are speaking subconsciously to my own anxieties now. In any event, my current vibe --

Does it look like Yves St Laurent designed it during his heyday? (Does it have a hint of Loulou de la Falaise?) Then yes.

Does it have a little swing and sass, while still being covered up? (See this outfit from La Beckham's Autumn Winter 2020 show.) Then yes.

Does it feel like I should either be listening to Carly Simon and Joni Mitchell OR 70s funk? Then yes. (Also, I am listening to a lot of Simon, Mitchell, and 70s funk. Paul Weller's new album, too, which marries a bit of electronica to 70s rock.)

Rich colours? Yes please.

And it's time to move into riding boots, heat be damned. (Because I am still working form home three or four days a week, I find that I am also outside in the backyard every couple of hours, thanks to Miss Adventure. My beloved kitten heels are sub-optimal for these days. Riding boots, or flat ankle boots? Practical and my vibe.)

Hope that you are finding things in your closet that spark joy and are your absolute vibe, whatever that may be.

Hugs to all. :)
usedtobeljs: ("Dame" Emma C by Bouncy Monkey)
So, anyway, here we are. My December London trip is basically canceled, and my fall schedule is already bizarre, and it's still bloody summer and will be for two months, and the US of A is in crisis, so....

Let's talk about clothes. Also, shoes. :)

I managed to make seven weeks without real clothes or shoes purchases, which for me is truly impressive. (My annual budget was part of that restraint: I wanted to save something for fall/winter. I'm v much hoping Carel Paris comes out with a Kina model --low heeled, multi-strapped Mary Janes, chic as you like -- in brown or burgundy, but even if they do, they're spendy.) I also am thinking about work-from-home Zoom-friendly attire as well, since online meetings will be instituted as a big part of work duties.

So I've gone through my closet asking what one or two items I could use to freshen my wardrobe. (I, um, have a lot of properly curated clothes. I mean, a lot.) I will be haunting ThredUp for a new black or navy jacket, but it has to be perfect and it's not necessary right now. Thus, I realize that my only opening is for a pink shirt.

(Note: I like tailored, constructed clothes.)

Have I bought the perfect pinky-lavender oversized shirt to wear with narrow trousers or pencil skirts and low heels or trainers? Why, yes. Yes, I have. Thanks, Ann Mashburn.

I also have bought new workout shoes, thanks to accidentally stepping in dog-poop in the dark on Wednesday night, but these are less exciting. Thanks, Miss Adventure. ;)

Three-sentence fic on the subject of clothes:

Lord Peter/Harriet, set post-canon )

Happy weekend to all.
usedtobeljs: (Default)
I think the world at large is making me tired, and if it's exhausting ME, it's got to be worse for others.

So, small things:
1) Miss Adventure had her first obedience class yesterday. After a few initial terrors she was a star, and then came home and had a couple of meltdowns. Ah well, that's my girl.
2) On Thursday I watched Coriolanus again on the NT at Home Youtube link, and will probably rewatch a bit later before it goes away on Thursday. The production -- and Hiddleston -- really truly were as stunning as I remembered. (And Mark Gatiss is the perfect Menenius, he really truly is.)
3) For my last hurrah (sure, Jan) of online purchasing, a couple of weeks ago I bought the cutest pair of espadrilles from one of my favorite shops (which has satellite shops in DC, Houston, and Dallas). The shoes were shipped from one of the shops, and when the box arrived... it only had one shoe. ;) The other shoe was still on display. I can say that the resolution of this little problem was fast and I'm satisfied, but... hee.

Big things:
Pandemic -- unmanaged.
Systemic Racism -- still a goddamn thing. But I hope the protests make a difference.

I was going to write a couple of 3-sentence fics, but eh, I am exhausted. Imagine me writing your fave here. ;)

Hugs to all.
usedtobeljs: (Default)
It's Saturday, yes? [checks calendar] Yes.

So this morning I arose lark-like at 6:10 because Miss Adventure needed to go out. (Fair enough!) Since then I have 1) done a 45-minute workout of light aerobics, barre, and Pilates, 2) given Miss Adventure a bath and done her topical fleas-etc treatment, 3) showered and dressed, 4) did a load of my own laundry, 5) am doing a load of Miss Adventure's bedding etc; 6) orange-oiled my kitchen island and table (both butcher-block), 7) dusted the two main living areas, and 8) swept my bedroom and laundry room.

Honestly, I'm ready to stop now. (But I have to check work email in a few minutes.)

So, let's do 10 More Good Things:
1) My youngest brother is recovering from a weird and nasty infection. (Not Covid-19.)
2) Miss Adventure has been tolerating her leash time in the front yard quite well, and we're about ready to progress to the park for walks.
3) Have received but not yet read Square Haunting, by Francesca Wade, a look at 5 women writers who lived in Bedford Square between the world wars. One of the writers is Dorothy Sayers!
4) Am rereading mid-20th-century writer Elizabeth Goudge's Eliot trilogy, which has been comfort reading for years for me. I'm starting with The Bird in the Tree, the first and least favorite of the three -- the others are Pilgrim's Inn and The Heart of the Family. One of the interesting features of these books is the quotidian reality of rationing post WWII; somehow that feels relevant.
5) Music I've been listening to: some of my old mix-CDs, Paul Weller, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Carly Simon, the Style Council, and Christian Kane.
6) It has been just cool enough that I can still bake some mornings. Yesterday: oatmeal-cranberry cookies.
7) My grocery store has been stocking 4-packs of Topo Chico mineral water! Joy, joy, joy.
8) I am wearing my awesome new shirt from Ann Mashburn again. Liberty-print for the win.
9) Also have ordered and am awaiting a Marfa ballcap to go into rotation with my old Banana Republic blue straw hat and my straw Stetson, to cover quarantine hair.
10) The best for last -- only two more weeks and I am DONE with a massive work responsibility which has been exhausting me for several years! HOT DAMN.

What good things are you finding in this terrible time? I hope it's more than 10.
usedtobeljs: (Anya we persevere thoughtful)
So, I have been buffeted by work crises and family crises, all amidst the general pandemic/lockdown anxiety, and really, I can't stand to think of any of it right now.

But before I turn to an afternoon of work, here's a quick 10 Good Things:

1) The National Theatre at Home this past Thursday showed a 2017 Twelfth Night that I missed in the theatre. You can still watch it for free until this Thursday.
2) It's really delightful. Oliver Chris is an Orsino I've never seen before (sort of bisexual Bertie Wooster with Shakespeare's words), and I loved Tamara Lawrence's Viola-Cesario, and I ship them like burning.
3) My thing for Tim McMullan (who will also be in the upcoming Antony and Cleopatra) got even more intense after seeing his louche Sir Toby.
4) Also continuing to love Christian Kane and Almost Paradise.
5) Shifting gears: read the first in Ashley Weaver's 1930s historical mystery series, Murder at the Brightwell. Heroine Amory and her wayward, louche husband Milo are a rich couple in England, negotiating marriage issues, when Amory stumbles into investigating a murder. Fun, even with 1st-person narration. Will read the next in the series and report.
6) Shifting gears again: have been spending too much money online, but I bought on rare sale a Liberty-print popover shirt from Ann Mashburn, and it's joy-making to wear.
7) Also? My purchase of a straw Stetson last summer is looking prescient, because I need a hat to go out these days.
8) Miss Adventure continues to be a wild child, but I see moments of trainability which encourage me. She's currently in heat (because of course) and she can't be spayed until lockdown is over anyway, but once that's done, we'll try walking in the park.
9) She is the cuddliest cuddle-bug there ever was, too, which is a delightful change after Master Danger.
10) In two more weeks I'll be able to breathe more easily. Fingers crossed, anyway.

Hugs and good days to all.

I am swinging by briefly to say Nope, Do Not Want to a line of argument about What to Wear When Working at Home.

Adam Tschorn of the LA Times wrote a column, already widely linked across these wild internets, in which he posits that if one is working from home, one should dress in business-appropriate clothes, for Reasons. (He lays out the reasons in his piece.)

One might say, "L, you have recently (as in your last post) mentioned that you do dress up for work at home. You must agree with this fashion writer, yes?"

Oh hell no.

FOR MYSELF, choosing an outfit as I always would and wearing something attractive is self-care. It makes me happy, as clothes always do, and every morning I enjoy the five minutes of considering what I'll put on and coordinating my Lewk (the word I love, used by Tom Lenk in his video recreations of fashion). Even so, I don't wear my fave heels because I will be going out in the backyard three or four or a dozen times with Miss Adventure during the day. I'm still aware of where I am.

But I would not in any way shape or form wish to judge others' self-care strategies. If jammies or yoga trousers or an aged terry-cloth robe give you peace in this hideous time, you rock those jammies, yoga trousers, aged robe, whatever.

Take care of yourself, friends.
