I am swinging by briefly to say Nope, Do Not Want to a line of argument about What to Wear When Working at Home.

Adam Tschorn of the LA Times wrote a column, already widely linked across these wild internets, in which he posits that if one is working from home, one should dress in business-appropriate clothes, for Reasons. (He lays out the reasons in his piece.)

One might say, "L, you have recently (as in your last post) mentioned that you do dress up for work at home. You must agree with this fashion writer, yes?"

Oh hell no.

FOR MYSELF, choosing an outfit as I always would and wearing something attractive is self-care. It makes me happy, as clothes always do, and every morning I enjoy the five minutes of considering what I'll put on and coordinating my Lewk (the word I love, used by Tom Lenk in his video recreations of fashion). Even so, I don't wear my fave heels because I will be going out in the backyard three or four or a dozen times with Miss Adventure during the day. I'm still aware of where I am.

But I would not in any way shape or form wish to judge others' self-care strategies. If jammies or yoga trousers or an aged terry-cloth robe give you peace in this hideous time, you rock those jammies, yoga trousers, aged robe, whatever.

Take care of yourself, friends.

Two three-sentence fics on the topic of Dressing at Home During Pandemic, with two different types of responses:

Mycroft/Anthea )

Hardy/Miller )

Such odd, anxious times. (Also, it's pollen season, oh boy. And unseasonably hot.)

Short takes:

1) I do not particularly enjoy working from home, but I'm managing. Except now I have to figure out Zoom, apparently.

2) Yesterday afternoon I did the global rewatch of "Day of the Doctor" via Twitter, with Steven Moffat returning to the platform to basically do a DVD commentary as people watched. Firstly, I understand why others dislike him, but Moffat's my guy. Secondly, damn that's a great hour and fifteen minutes of television.

3) Rereading the first two Chalion books by Lois McMaster Bujold has been comforting.Ish.

4) Two quick drabbles from the drabble-call! For Misbegotten, Hardy/Miller; for ALH, River/Twelve.

Hardy/Miller, Broadchurch, post-series )

And

Twelve/River, magic )

.... A Mycroft ficlet will come later this week.

Hugs to all, and may we find patience and ease in these days.

You might have noticed that there was a post on Halloween, which disappeared the next day. Alas for me -- I tried to edit something and then somehow clicked Delete. It is dispiriting, and also fairly consistent with the way my October into November went.

But I am hoping for a better season ahead. Thanks be to a cool front, the weather here in the subtropics is a mere 3 degrees above normal rather than 12, and it feels like proper autumn at last.

So -- 3 3-sentence fics on proper autumn:

Mycroft/Anthea, established relationship, set now )

Crane/Abbie, in a world which diverges from canon before the end of Season 3, established relationship )

Hardy/Miller, post-series, established relationship )

Speaking of Olivia Colman and David Tennant, each of them has a song on the BBC Children in Need album which just came out: Colman does an amazing cover of Portishead's "Glory Box," and DT sings a plaintive and sweet cover of the Proclaimers' "Sunshine on Leith." It's a cool project.

Happy start to your week!
