Pop Culture Check-in, Post #29

Three things on Thursday:

*I've started watching Only Murders in the Building, and I like it and its twist on cozy mysteries, but I have to say -- this pandemic has made me so anxious that the Martin Short character's storyline of money troubles is all but unwatchable. I just... gaah. Can someone check with Steve Martin to make sure that Marty's character is all right by the end of the season? I need to be able to skip ahead.

Somehow I'm not as concerned with Selena Gomez's character's woes. It's just Martin Short's. That being said, I'm loving her performance and her character's wardrobe. :)

*I have stalled on Episode One of Lucifer because, again, I am having trouble watching even well-written angst. I do not find it cathartic in the least.

*But you know what is a good thing? THiddleston and Zawe Ashton were photographed together in Ibiza, swimming and almost snogging in mid-swim and looking gorgeous and happy together. Paparazzi = bad, but confirmation they're still together = good.

Does the happiness of one actor and another actor-writer materially affect me? Not in the slightest. Is it my business? Also no. But I'm happy to know it, nevertheless.

Otherwise we are in a time of Exhaustion, and not even ordering new trousers from the Ines de la Fressange collection at Uniqlo is quite enough to stir the endorphins. Oh well.

Lucifer becomes a relatively decent cop show in addition to the other shenanigans, but I find my attention drifting a lot and haven't made it past season 2.

Oh, I have loved Lucifer and was looking forward to the final season. I'm just not in the space for it right now.

(I actually think Lucifer develops throughout its seasons in a beautiful way, but the cop-show part is consistently its weakest element.)

I've heard of Only Murders in the Building but hadn't looked into it. I do like cozy mysteries so maybe I'll give it a go.

I don't like hanging angst at all (it sticks with me way too long), which is why I will always flip to the end of a book or spoil a show if I think it might be unresolved.

I am with you in skipping to the end of a book! I prefer to know where I'm going so I can enjoy the journey. :)

I’m way behind with Lucifer but I know exactly what you mean about not being able to cope with angst at the moment. We are mostly avoiding “heavy” drama until we feel up to it again.

I sneaked a look at those photos even though paparazzi pics are obviously bad :)

I hear that there's a clear split between people who want angst to help them process 2020/2021 and those of us who emphatically do not. ;)
