Five for Friday, Post #22

Hiya! I have a long to-do list, but I will post five quick things:

*I so appreciate Emma Caulfield's essay about "Why The Buffy Reboot News has...Emma Caulfield So Conflicted." It's smart and well-written.

*Also I posted a supportive comment re this on her Instagram and she responded kindly. [sheds tears]

*It is time to shop for fall clothes, and... I don't have much to shop for. It's all replacement items: a couple of new sweaters to replace old, one new button-down from Brooks Brothers, and new riding boots.

*Of course I also have already bought the Perfect Silk Shirtdress and the Perfect Trousers this summer, so I've done my wardrobe damage. ;)

*Around the corner from my house is an old tri-plex. The landlord has not spent any real money on upkeep for years, but the current tenants -- one, a couple of older white men I suspect have done time on the streets; two, a super-nice middle-aged black couple -- have landscaped on their own, and it now has real curb appeal. The only exception to their landscape beauty were two huge old oaks, which did NOT look to be in good shape. They were inbetween the sidewalk and the road, so technically the county's responsibility.

Well, the county tree service has just taken them down, and it is TERRIFYING to see how dangerous one of the oaks was -- rotted through the base, with only the merest bits of wood anchoring it. I am so grateful that these wonderful neighbors are safe now.

Thanks, I hadn't run across Emma Caulfield's article. I'm conflicted about a revival of BtVS myself, so it was interesting to see her thoughts.

I loved the way Caulfield worked through her concerns -- it was really nicely done. (And I am fairly skeptical about the reboot, but I'll give it a chance, I guess...)

As always, I had no idea there was BTVS reboot in the air until you posted the link to Emma Caulfield’s essay. Thanks for keeping me up to date!

It must be Dead Tree Season; a house on the other side of our block just took down an enormous dead pine tree. It wasn't rotten, but it had a lot of Very Large Branches looming over the roof of the house, so watching them chop it to pieces in situ was rather nervous-making.

I have Tree Fear, so watching that pine being chopped down would be not a thing I could do!

It's so cool that she responded to you. I'd have jumped up and down and then freaked out.

I'm not sure what I think about a reboot- they do so many of them, but on the other hand, I think of Star Trek and all the different stories they went on to tell.

It makes sense NOT to do this kind of work when one is renting -- they've spent money on a place that's not their own -- but I surely do appreciate it. :)

Do tell me about the Perfect Silk Shirtdress, please. (I love dresses — there's no need to coordinate multiple pieces. A dress and a pair of leggings and I'm good to go.)

I tried to find a good link, but none worked properly. Anyway, it's an Asceno London silk shirt-dress, with a very fun and slightly funky mixed-horizontal stripe pattern in blue, red, and gold. It's super fluttery for summer, but in the subtropics it will easily work into November with a pair of boots.
