Everything is Difficult, Post #16

Oh so tired, so out of initiative. But we persevere.

*Miss Adventure has decided that Adventure is NOT her middle name, as she does not like loud trucks/cars/machinery and the outside is full of them. I'm rereading a Sarah Fisher dog-training book to try to figure out how to shift her out of meltdown mode.

(But she is so sweet, and so funny, and a lovely presence in the house.)

*Just finished reading C.S. Harris's latest Sebastian St Cyr mystery, Who Speaks for the Damned. Really wonderful, one of the best in the series: find out more here.

*Enjoying the genre pleasures and visual splendor (hee) of Christian Kane's new TV show Almost Paradise. (I will follow Kane just about anywhere.) A teaser here.

Two three-sentence fics on the subject of Difficult:


"Why do you have to make everything so difficult, Lindsey?" Fred snaps, as she binds up yet another wound he's collected during a sortie against some new downtown Dallas demons.

He waits until she looks up at him, and Lord, the twinkle in his eyes about lays her out.

"You're right, darlin', I just shouldn't go out do-gooding any more," he says, and on a groan, she stops his mouth and his stupid teasing with her kiss.



Harriet only vaguely remembers how difficult her life was before her marriage -- the anxieties of work and bread-winning, the lingering scars of her time with Phillip Boyes and the aftermath.

Her difficulties now are intellectual -- how will she finish this story? -- and in a sense, managerial, in her emotional dealings with her lord, her children, and (oh heavens) her staff.

But when at the end of a long day her Peter stoops to kiss her, even those difficulties are subsumed in golden joy.

Lindsey/Fred show up in my Deep Ellum series; Lindsey's there from the start, but I brought Fred to him in "Bluebonnets and Depression Glass." I love the idea of the Texas girl and Oklahoma boy together. :) I've also written little ficlets here on the olde journal, in the lindsey/fred tag.

Miss Adventure just barked at several points through an hour-plus online meeting, bless her. (There were cats meowing from other participants' audio/video sites, it was perfectly understandable. ;) ]
