Checking in, Post #39
Well, here we are in mid-December, la la la.
Of course it's unseasonably warm here in the subtropics and will be until Christmas, but at least it saves electricity. Not especially Christmassy, however....
Last week I had a birthday, which would have been exciting except that I also had STACKS of time-sensitive work to accomplish and so celebration was minimal. This weekend, however, I got to go drink wine in the Nearby Cool Town with my grad school best bud and her husband; this was really special to me, because I hadn't socialized in such a grown-up evening way for a while, and hadn't socialized with them both since right before the first lockdown in March 2020.
While out, I saw a middle-aged gentleman in velvet jacket (blue) and in trousers with two different tartan patterns, one for each leg. V.v. festive and styling! I appreciated the effort. :)
Speaking of people making a style effort, I give you Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton; the first image is from the Tonys in September, but the other three looks are from last week and three separate appearances. Y'all, these pretty, pretty people.
Here's a three-sentence fic on Dressing Well:
When Anthea dons her evening finery, at first sight Mycroft always has to take a moment to regroup.
He's used to her beauty in the daylight, in her workwear tailored so she can move and handle whatever mess their world gives her; he's used to her beauty in their home, in bare feet and natural grace and the occasional theft of items from his wardrobe; he's used to her beauty in their bed, tousled hair and silken skin and nothing more.
But when, in long swishing gown and the Cartier earrings and watch he's gifted her, she meets him in the foyer of their flat, he feels as young and unsteady as at his first dance, and he loses his words just as he had done then.
May your week be wonderful!
