Glass Onion, Post #33
Hope all is well where you are....
During a bitterly cold Christmas weekend, I managed to warm myself by watching Glass Onion, the second of the Knives Out movies, on Netflix.
What a delight. :)
Beyond the homage to a certain kind of murder mystery (vacation in a warm place, a la Death on the Nile), the deconstruction of the rich-people characters was so much fun. Janelle Monae was AMAZING, and the costumes alone for Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc filled me with joy. Fun dialogue and high style: a happy place.
But the thing I so loved was a seemingly throwaway gag: Blanc's partner/boyfriend/husband (it's not stated) Phillip appears in two voiceover lines and one 20-second appearance, and he's played by Hugh Fucking Grant.
LOVE LOVE LOVE.
And now I need the third Knives Out movie to be a homage to Nick and Nora, with Hugh the Nora to Daniel Craig's Nick.
(It is also true that the two Knives Out movies so far center on Blanc and a woman of color working together platonically to right a wrong, but that can be easily accommodated to a riff on the first Thin Man.)
AO3 has exploded with Blanc/Phillip fic, by the way.
Hope that you've found something fun to watch during these last days of 2022!
