Back to a Heat Wave, Post #15

My vacation is over, and the subtropics are trapped in a hideous heat wave which isn't forecast to break until next week, maybe. This is supposed to be the rainy season, but we are dry, dry, dry, even as the Plains are spilling over with rain.

Something is not quite right here.

Let us think of happier things. My vacation was lovely but too short. The trans-Pecos is still my favorite place that isn't London, and Marfa is glossier than I remember but still funky-cool around the edges. The Chihuahuan Desert makes me happy -- ocotillo in bloom! prickly pear setting fruit! cholla and yucca and desert grasses -- and I even got a bit of desert petrichor one evening which is EVERYTHING. There were some travel hiccups due to storms elsewhere, but anyway -- I was able to escape for a bit.

Master Danger and I are now hiding from the heat as best we can. I watched The Gospel According to Andre Leon Talley, the documentary from last year which is now streaming on Hulu, and found myself depressed by the racism who affected him and by the passing of an era. And I am eagerly awaiting Good Omens on Amazon Prime, four days away four days away!

Now off to try to write, but I wanted to wave and say hello.

Hello!

Apparently we’ve been getting all your rain...sorry to be so greedy! But oh, desert petrichor...suddenly nostalgic for Fort Huachuca in my long ago youth.

And welcome back! I hope your rainy seasons hurries up!
